About the Author
Hana is a Course 10 (Chemical Engineering) student in the Class of 2027. After years of describing herself as a “chemistry girl,” she finds it challenging to pick a single thing that describes her. That’s because she uses her most valuable resource, time, to try new recipes, play Minecraft, swim at the Z-Center, learn to play the pandeiro (the Brazilian tambourine) at Batucada MIT, learn Java, walk 4.5 miles per day while listening to her random playlists, discuss why Garantido is the best team at the beloved Parintins Festival in Amazonia, and, finally, find time to write about these adventures.
Life at MIT sometimes feels like a dream to her. But every time she scrolls through her journal on her phone, she’s reminded that all the iconic and unpredictable experiences of her freshman year were real life.
She took 21 W.022 (Reading and Writing Autobiography) because she was already writing memoirs every day before sleeping. She thought the class would only help her to create texts that other people would understand. However, she was especially challenged by the last project, the comic memoir, to try new genres of writing.
